Amadou et Mariam | Interview
Amadou & Mariam are a musical duo from Bamako, Mali. We had a quick chat with Amadou Bagayoko before the artists' performance in Singapore, on November the 12th.
Quick 6 interview with Amadou Bagayoko from Amadou & Mariam.
What was the first and last album (or song) you bought?
My very first album was Mike Brown (a French singer) and the last one I received as a gift from my percussionist, Joel Herriezuelo. He is Cuban and very talented!
What is the first album you remember listening to from front to back, on repeat?
That’s a hard question because I love so many albums. But one that was definitely on loop was Camouflage from Rod Stewart. But I have more for sure!
What is a fad or trend you hope comes back?
Well there is a new one that is back in Africa with a lot of followers… the Afrotrap had great performers like MHD.
What song do you wish you wrote?
One (of many) could be Stayin Alive from Bee Gees (he starts singing on the phone!)
What was the first song you learned to play?
Very first chords I’ve learnt were Baby Come Back from Eagles.
If you had to organize a festival, who would be your three dream headliners?
That’s a dreamy question (laugh), Cheick Tidiane Seck, Stevie Wonder, Coldplay… and an extra one please… Rihanna.
About the performance in Singapore
Are you excited to be performing Singapore?
Super, we are extremely excited. We never played in Singapore and we are very happy to soon be there!
What can the audience expect from you?
Well we are going to play some African music with different styles, electro, fusion, rock, blues… We are going to do our best to make the audience dance & sing us with.
