And more!
What is your earliest artistic memory?
When I was four or five, I went to see my parents do a gig near our hometown, and I fell in love immediately. I remember singing every single word and just being so excited by the whole vibe in the room. That was a huge moment for me!
What is your favourite cover?
In my live show, I used to do a mash-up cover of “Cranes in the Sky” by Solange and “The Weekend” by SZA. I looooved singing that and watching the crowd get involved!
What does R&B convey like no other music genre?
Diversity. R&B is the one genre that has no limitations. It gives me everything I need: love, lust, heartbreak, and everything else. It’s the most exciting genre in my eyes.
What is your best music memory on stage?
I played Glastonbury Festival last year. It was my first major festival slot, and it was absolutely incredible. It was almost 7,000 people crammed into a tent, and I was the most nervous I’ve ever been. But it was absolutely amazing.
What is your favourite song of all time?
It’s a song by Bon Iver. It’s called “Re-Stacks.” My brother introduced me to it when I was quite a bit younger, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. It’s one song that can make me cry at any given point.
What is your favourite album of all time?
Corrine Bailey Rae’s debut album will always be the best for me.
What was your most memorable moment from the Brit Awards?
Seeing Lizzo perform! What a powerhouse she is.
What song do you love performing the most on stage, and why?
My song, “I Wish I Missed My Ex.” The crowd always go mental, and I love it. It’s definitely my favourite part of the show!
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing right now?
Fresh out of university, probably! I think I’d be working in care. Maybe with kids or animals.
Which musicians would you like to collaborate with next?
Kendrick Lamar has been on my list for as long as I can remember!
What’s your motto?
“What goes around comes around.”
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
To always trust myself before anybody else. I think that’s the key to being successful. Although other opinions are good to have, my voice should always come first in my head. I think that’s the key.
What’s coming up for you in the next few weeks and months?
Writing mostly! I’m really excited about what’s coming next. I’m just taking some time to focus on experiencing life a bit. I spent most of last year on the road so I’m super excited about getting my head down and writing some more music!
