Choosing the best music for your restaurant

The music you play in your restaurant is almost as important as the food you serve. In fact, according to HUI Research, music can increase restaurant sales by up to 9%, and can also influence how much - and how fast- your guests eat!

It’s for this reason that restaurant owners are starting to pay more attention to what kind of music they play.

Some of our clients (See Mandy’s), believe that having a custom playlist is what truly creates a unique experience. So how can you pair the right music with your restaurant to create a memorable experience? Our music experts have some tips for you.

Match music to your brand identity to create the desired atmosphere.

How do you want your guests to feel when they dine in your restaurant? This is the first question you should ask yourself when deciding what type of background music you want to play. The music should match your brand and should convey what your brand is all about. Do you want guests to feel relaxed while they dine? Try a mix of soothing classical music, like our Classical Calm channel.

Pick the right energy level for the time of day & week.

There is no such thing as a one-size fits all approach to music. The music you play should reflect the mood throughout the day. For example, for early mornings we recommend calm, soothing & downtempo music, whereas, during the lunchtime rush, we suggest mid to up-tempo, lively music.

Get your staff into it.

Music is important not just for your guests, but also for your staff. Music can help keep your employees engaged but can also get repetitive and predictable if you are playing the same songs on rotation. Make sure to have a collection of playlists on hand to keep things interesting.

Don’t forget the license.

Music must be licensed to play in your restaurant. Personal streaming services are a no-no as they do not have the licenses required to play music in a public space. Having the proper licenses for your music is important to avoid legal issues and fees, and it also ensures that the artists and songwriters are properly compensated.

Choosing what music to play is as important as what ingredients you use, and you should select it with just as much care. Think your establishment could do with a music revamp? Explore our music library, or contact us if you want to build a custom playlist!
